EXPN ("the app", "we", "us") is an expense and budget tracking app. This page explains what data the app handles and how, in plain terms. EXPN is built local-first: everything works without an account, and your financial data lives on your own device. If you choose to create an account and turn on cloud sync (a premium feature), your data is also stored in the cloud so it can follow you across devices, and this policy explains exactly what that involves.
Summary: Without an account, your financial data stays on your device. With an optional account, your data is synced to secure cloud storage solely to provide the sync feature, and you can delete your account and all cloud data at any time, from inside the app. We never sell your data, never share it for advertising, and use no analytics or ad tracking of any kind.
All the data you enter, expenses, income entries, budgets, categories, accounts, profiles, and your app settings, is stored locally on your device in a local database. Without an account, we never receive a copy of this data and it is never transmitted to any server we control.
You can create an account with an email address and password, or sign in with Google. Accounts are optional, and only exist to power the cloud sync feature. When you are signed in and sync is active, the following is stored in the cloud:
This data is encrypted in transit, is accessible only to your signed-in account, and is used exclusively to provide sync. We do not sell it, share it with third parties for their own purposes, or use it for advertising or profiling. Signing out stops syncing; deleting your account removes the cloud copy entirely (see "Deleting your data" below).
The app uses Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) to collect crash reports, so we can find and fix bugs. A crash report contains technical diagnostics: device model, operating system version, app version, and the technical trace of the crash. It does not contain your expenses, income, budgets, or any financial content you have entered. Crash data is retained by Firebase for a limited period (90 days) and then deleted automatically.
The app makes these network requests:
Payment/bill reminders are scheduled entirely on your device using your operating system's local notification system. These are not push notifications, and no notification content passes through any server operated by us or a third party.
You can export your data to a backup file at any time. Sharing that file, to cloud storage, email, messaging apps, or anywhere else, happens through your device's own native share sheet, at your choice. The app itself never uploads this file anywhere automatically.
Premium features are purchased through Google Play's or Apple's own in-app purchase systems. Payment details are handled entirely by Google or Apple under their own privacy policies, we never see or store your payment information.
The app does not request access to your camera, contacts, location, microphone, or photo library.
The app contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no tracking of any kind. The outside services it uses are:
EXPN is not directed at children and is not designed for use by children. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your country).
